How do you conduct coaching and disclosure sessions?
Coaching and disclosure sessions are conducted through Zoom.
Do we have to live in the same area?
No, coaches are not bound by state or country regulations.
What is the cost of a coaching session?
A coaching session is $75 for 50 minutes.
Do you offer a sliding scale for women in financial difficulty?
I never want finances to keep a woman from getting disclosure support. Please set up a free consultation, and we can discuss your needs.
What is your availability for coaching sessions?
Due to volunteer work and family commitments, I am available on Tuesdays only.
What is the difference between therapy and coaching?
Both therapy and coaching can be very beneficial when facing betrayal trauma. With your permission, therapists and coaches can communicate and focus on different aspects of your recovery.
Therapy is where you process trauma and deal with symptoms of post-traumatic stress, both from betrayal as well as any past trauma that is commonly stirred up when betrayed. Therapists focus on the past and present as a way to move forward. In therapy, the client is considered the patient, and the therapist is the expert. Some therapists also diagnose and treat mental illness.
Coaching starts with sharing your story, but then the focus shifts to the present and future. Coaching is a collaborative partnership focusing on specific goals determined by the client. In coaching, the client is considered the expert on their life, and the coach is a partner. Coaching is action-oriented and focuses on where a client is today and how to best move forward by exploring mindsets, options, and obstacles. The client leaves each session with a few action steps to help propel them toward their goals.
What does The International Coaching Federation (ICF) say about coaching vs. therapy?
"The ICF defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. Coaching focuses on visioning, success, the present and moving toward the future. Therapy emphasizes psychopathology, emotions and the past to understand the present, and it works more with developing skills for managing emotions or past issues than does coaching."
How do I find professionals trained in Betrayal Trauma?
The Association of Partners of Sex Addicts Trauma Specialists (APSATS) is an organization that trains coaches and therapists from a trauma-informed perspective. Visit the APSATS website to find a professional in your area. Another resource is a podcast called Helping Couples Heal. Two of their podcasts that are helpful in choosing a professional are Finding Professional Support and Pathologizing the Partner vs Partner Trauma Model. (Apple Podcasts)
